An green, empty, roofed bus stop next to a street. Directly behind it is an unplanted field and a sky with poofy clouds. It looks very warm.

MuT – Mobility and Participation

Mobility poverty describes the situation in which people are restricted in their daily activities and can no longer fully meet their needs due to limited resources or lack of access to transportation. This can subsequently lead to social isolation and limited access to education, jobs, healthcare and other important services. Against this background, the development of a national definition of mobility poverty is of central importance in order to develop targeted measures and support programs to improve the mobility and quality of life of those affected.

Project objective: Development of a comprehensive definition of mobility poverty in Austria

Together with HERRY Consult GmbH, ÖGUT is developing a comprehensive definition of mobility poverty in Austria. Both socio-economic and spatial differences in Austria are taken into account. The focus is also on gender and diversity aspects as well as structural exclusion mechanisms. In addition, intersectional interdependencies are analyzed, as social science perspectives and gender equality are usually underrepresented in mobility research. In addition to individuals, the definition will also focus on companies that are also affected by mobility poverty, such as micro-enterprises and one-person companies (EPU).
