Study visit tour – best practise examples for 5GDHC networks in Vienna
Advancing 5th-Generation District Heating and Cooling Networks in Alpine Space

Which kind of information will the study visit tour provide?
- Basic understanding of the concept of 5GDHC: such as borehole heat exchanger, heat pumps, total energy efficiency of the system, relevance of Seasonal Performance Factor (SPF)
- Role of 5GDHC for the decarbonisation of the heating systems. Why are they especially important in urban areas?
- Necessary measures in the building to be able to participate in a 5GDHC network, such as centralises pipe system to all flats, low temperature heat emission system and the social, technical, legal and economic challenges.
- Legal framework for heating systems in Austria in different categories of housing laws (rental houses, condominium houses, social housing) and the consequences of motivation and cost sharing between residents and owner.
- Options for organisational solution to initiate and operate a 5GDHC: Who invests? Who operates?, Who takes financial risks? Business models as Heat supply contracting.
- Do´s and Don't´s for 5GDHC, success factors and necessary changes based on the projects visited.
