Study: Skills needs in the circular economy and circular production in Austria

The circular economy makes a key contribution to the transition in resource and energy use and to building local, resilient value chains, and thus plays an important role in tackling the climate crisis. In Austria's Circular Economy Strategy, the commitment to transforming towards a circular society and economy is therefore firmly anchored, and the related education and training needs are addressed at several points.
Comprehensive up and reskilling measures for professionals are required, ranging from minor to substantial adaptations within existing occupations to new types of qualifications driven by emerging job profiles.

The aim of the study was to identify short , medium and long term skills needs in the circular economy, in particular in the key transformation areas of the strategy. It analyzed which instruments can be used to meet these needs across Austria and, in addition to existing training programs, placed a special focus on the complementary use of the funding instruments "qualification networks, innovation labs and innovation labs for education".
