Climate Strategy 2040 of Burgenland – participatory process

Participatory process support

In consultation with the client, stakeholder mapping and a detailed proposal for the process and methodology of stakeholder participation will first be developed for the participatory process of revising the climate strategy. Furthermore, the involvement of young people in Burgenland in the form of the Youth Climate Conference, which has been taking place since 2019, will be roughly planned at the beginning of the project.

Once the structure and framework of the overall strategy and the annual progress report have been defined, the necessary working groups for the development of measures will be defined in consultation with the client, and it will be clarified which stakeholders need to be involved in the activities of the working groups.
The following milestones are currently planned for the participatory process of revising the climate strategy:

  • Public stakeholder dialogue I – Q1 2026
  • Working groups for measure development – Q2&3 2026
  • Youth Climate Conference – Q4 2026
  • Public online consultation – Q1 2027
  • Public stakeholder dialogue II – Q1/2 2027

Expansion of the strategy to include circular economy, climate change adaptation, and biodiversity

In addition to designing and implementing the participatory process, ÖGUT is responsible for developing measures in the areas of circular economy, climate change adaptation, and biodiversity. The results of the working groups supervised by ÖGUT in these areas form the basis for the corresponding chapters in the Burgenland 2040 Climate Strategy, which will be finalized by ÖGUT.
