Keynote Speech - ISSRM 2009: Ethical-Ecological Investment: A Way towards Sustainability?

On July the 7th 2009 at the 15th International Symposium on Society and Resource Management – Meet old and new worlds in Research, Planning, and Management (ISSRM 2009) at the Austria Center Vienna Dr. Herbert Greisberger and Dr.in Katharina Sammer (OGUT) addressed the question “Ethical-Ecological Investment: A Way towards Sustainability?”

Investments that are bound to criteria of sustainability are called „ethic-ecological investments“, „sustainable investments“, „sustainable assessment“, or as well „green money“. For example investments are made in companies, that follow ecological or social principles in terms of corporate policy and who´s products and services create economic, social and ecological revenue for society. On the other hand, companies are excluded from the portfolio, which cause harm or damage to society and nature. (e.g. military industries). The stronger the demand for ethic-ecological investments, the greater becomes the influence in regard to a sustainable development. In the lecture, the current developments on the market for sustainable investments, the obstacles and possible ways of support of sustainable financial products are discussed.
