Energy Efficiency Communities – Establishing pilot communities for the building sector (EffCoBuild)

Abstract

The building sector is one of the largest energy consumers in Central Europe, especially the demand for heating, hot water supply and cooling. The project will show that the energy saving potentials in the building sector are enormous and are a puzzle piece in a sustainable energy supply. It also demonstrates that by implementing efficiency measures the comfort of living improves, and a positive impulse to the regional economic and employment situation is given. Therefore, the main stakeholders, such as building owners, administration, financing institutes, private companies and regional politicians, are involved as an advisory board in the project.

In each country one pilot community will be established. The existing legal, economic and know how framework will be analysed, and a concept of measures to gain the saving potentials developed. With these measures/instruments/actions, new efficiency technologies will be disseminated, as well as the legal framework and the financing of investments will be facilitated. Finally, one measure of the concept will be implemented as a pilot project and the first step towards an energy efficiency community will be set.
