CONVIBA - What is Energy Performance Contracting?
Energy Performance Contracting is a method to implement energy saving measures. At this method a private enterprise - a so called “Contractor” – conducts planning, pre-financing, implementation, maintenance and monitoring of the measures during the contracting period (usually between 5 and 12 years). The Contractor guarantees minimum energy cost savings and receives a yearly rate resulting from the actual energy cost savings to cover its investments.Advantages of Energy Performance Contracting in comparison with a works contract
- The building owner does not need capital resources or to take out a loan
- Planning, financing, implementing and maintenance from one source – the Contractor
- The Contractor has self interest to optimised energy cost saving results.
- The building owner does take no risks, the contractor bears the risks
- The building is being energetically refitted by considering all technical potentials within a comprehensive concept
Energy Performance Contracting is particular suitable for public buildings like schools, administration buildings, sport facilities, but also for apartment buildings as well as for industrial plants. Energy Performance Contracting has been applied in Austria since more than 10 years and according the kind of appliance several procurement and contracting models has been developed.
