Analysis concerning the scarcity of resources

There are increasing signs, that resources, crucial to future development of the economy and new technologies like fossil fuels or certain metals are getting scarce, or at least that the amounts produced will not be able to meet rising future demands.

  • Especially with crude oil, the peak is ultimately in front of us or we might even have passed it already. Michael Cerveny recently has conducted some research concerning this (see: Peak-Forschung - [German only]). Keeping in mind the central and vital role of the oil market for the world, (important for the development of the economies, social structure and protection of the environment/climate-change mitigation), the analysis and related communication efforts will be prolonged and intensified.
  • Moreover, also the foreseeable development of the natural gas and coal market should be analysed.
  • Further, the status of the discussion on the scope of important metals should be prepared and critically questioned.
Facing currently gathering European and international expert-networks on the topic, it is a goal to join in with the best available know-how, international expertise and relevant scientific community within the frame of this project.

Goals:

  • Strategic conclusions for R&D-policy and other areas of policy
  • Communication (lectures, publications etc.) of research-findings and outcommings to relevant stakeholders and the public.
